The Odyssey

“At times what we think, it happens! and it happens just the way we thought it.
Conversely, God always fulfills our wishes which we never wish to happen.”

It was our final year of grad, and my friend had a quick visit to Mumbai for VISA process. Wandering alone in the bustling city he did had some bitter experiences, but he enjoyed. Till the time we have seen Mumbai from a vantage point, watching videos and hearing from friends/relatives. I still remember a couple of videos we watched on YouTube where life in Mumbai local, making of Bandra-Worli sea link, the famous dabbawala chain and many other spotlights of this city were exhibited. We always imagined the kind of life people are living in Mumbai where railway platforms are always studded with heads, roads with vehicles and queues for every damn thing.

Most of the engineering folks are caught by insomnia and for them night starts only when they hit the bed which is normally around 4:00 AM. Being a part of fraternity we were not an exception :) . One day (late night) while hanging out on the lintel of the water tank on terrace, my friend was narrating his experience of t he last visit he had to Mumbai. Listening to him I could easily conceive of the hustle and bustle of the city and the pace with which it is running. He went there for a short span of time, to finish an important work, so he didn’t get much time to hang on and enjoy the atmosphere there. We decided we will definitely visit the city again along with Pappu if possible. At the same time I prayed that I should not get posted to Mumbai when I join TCS after my grad is over, as whenever I  heard about Mumbai I found the word “Traffic” tied to it.

To visit Mumbai at our own required savings from the petty pocket-money we got during college days. Asking for money at home for such a reason had become a dishonor for us as there were guys who were earning their expenses along with their studies. In the same spirit I joined a Call center to fetch some savings out of my earnings, but it was too late. Murphy’s Law says that when you have money, you have no time to spend it and when you have time, you have no money to spend. That’s what happened with us, whenever we had money, either one of us went busy with some or other work and when both were free we just had a few pennies in pockets. Time went by and my friend flew away for masters, leaving the dream behind and life became busy after that.

Today as per the destiny I am working in Mumbai, and am loving the life here. My friend “Harshit”, is in Texas pursuing his MS and Pappu “Piyush”, is working in Hyderabad. I never imagined that it will happen so soon, my friend visited India last year for his brother’s marriage and luckily we three met in Mumbai :) . The journey that we ever dreamed of, sometime back in college is now successful. Whatever happens, it happens for good.. this has always been the poker psychology of our life and has always given us the strength, the confidence to deal with the situations we came across. No matter where we are, what geographic distances we have, we strive for a common place to settle down. Not sure when will it happen but the soon or later the day will come and the odyssey will continue….
